The comparison
Posting regularly sounds simple until you're also serving customers, updating your website and, you know, running a business. Then Tuesday's "quick Instagram post" becomes Friday's guilty "we're still here!" post.
A social media scheduler fixes that. You sit down once, write a week (or a month) of posts, line them up on a calendar, and the tool publishes them for you at the times you pick. It's the closest thing to a Time-Turner most of us will get.
These seven options take different approaches, from free starter plans to tools built for agencies juggling dozens of client accounts.
How we compared: This is a research-based guide, not a hands-on test. We reviewed each company's published pricing and feature pages, plus recent third-party pricing checks where a vendor's page couldn't be reached. Prices were checked on November 6, 2026, and they change often, so confirm on the vendor's site before you buy. Prices are in US dollars unless noted.
The tools are listed alphabetically, not ranked.

1. Buffer
Good fit: Building a consistent posting routine without a big bill
Buffer has been around since 2010, and it's one of the simplest schedulers to learn. You add posts to a queue, and Buffer publishes them at your preset times. An ideas board and an AI assistant help when you have something to say but need help shaping it.
What you get:
- Free: up to 3 channels, 10 queued posts per channel, 100 saved ideas, 30 days of analytics and unlimited use of the AI assistant
- Essentials: unlimited queued posts, advanced analytics and engagement tools
- Team: everything in Essentials, plus unlimited users, approval workflows and access controls
Pricing snapshot: Buffer charges per channel (one connected account, like a Facebook Page or an Instagram profile). Essentials is $6/mo per channel, or $5 billed yearly. Team is $12/mo per channel, or $10 billed yearly. Channels beyond the 10th get cheaper. Paid plans have a 14-day trial with no card required.
Pros: A genuinely useful free plan. The per-channel pricing is cheap if you only use two or three accounts.
Keep in mind: Costs grow with every account you add. Four channels on Team runs about $40–48 a month. Approvals require the Team plan.
2. Later
Good fit: Visual brands that live on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest
Later began as an Instagram planner, and it still shines for photo- and video-heavy brands. Its visual planner lets you preview how your grid will look before anything goes live.
What you get:
- Cross-platform scheduling with a visual calendar and grid preview
- AI caption help, using monthly AI credits
- Performance analytics and best-time-to-post suggestions
- Collaboration and approval tools on larger plans
Pricing snapshot: Recent third-party checks put Starter at $25/mo, or $18.75/mo billed yearly, for 1 "social set" (up to 8 profiles), 1 user and 30 posts per profile a month. Growth is $50/mo ($37.50 yearly) for 2 social sets, 2 users and 180 posts per profile. Scale is $110/mo ($82.50 yearly). Each paid plan has a 14-day trial.
Pros: The visual planning is excellent for brands where the look of the feed matters.
Keep in mind: Starter's 30 posts per profile a month is about one a day. Starter includes only 5 AI credits and doesn't allow add-ons. Later also sells influencer marketing products, so make sure you're comparing its social media plans.
3. Mage Engage (our product)
Good fit: Turning what you know about a brand into a content plan
Mage Engage starts with a profile of each brand: its voice, audience and the social accounts it uses. From there it helps you plan campaigns, draft posts and images with AI, and schedule them to publish. AI-created posts stay as drafts until you review them, so nothing goes out that you haven't seen.
What you get:
- Brand profiles, so each brand keeps its own voice, social connections and posting schedule
- AI-assisted drafts and images, with platform-specific versions of each post
- A content planner with reusable weekly posting slots
- Review and approval before anything publishes
- Unlimited team users on every plan
Pricing snapshot:
- Starter: $24/mo, or $240/year, for 3 brands, 10 social accounts, 250 scheduled posts a month and 10,000 AI credits
- Growth: $49/mo, or $490/year, for 10 brands, 30 accounts, 1,000 posts a month and 30,000 AI credits
- Pro: $99/mo, or $990/year, for 25 brands, 75 accounts, 3,000 posts a month and 75,000 AI credits
- Extra AI credits start at $10/mo for 10,000
Pros: Unlimited users is a real advantage for agencies, since several tools on this list charge per seat. Starting from brand information, rather than a blank text box, helps when you know your business but struggle with what to post.
Keep in mind: There's no free plan or listed free trial. Publishing to X (Twitter) uses separate X Post Tokens, sold as an add-on from $10/mo. The product page doesn't list which social networks are supported, so confirm yours before buying.
4. Metricool
Good fit: Planning posts and seeing what worked, in one place
Metricool pairs a drag-and-drop publishing calendar with analytics and reporting. It's a good pick if your goal isn't just to post, but to figure out which posts are worth repeating.
What you get:
- Free: 1 brand, 20 scheduled posts a month, 30 days of analytics history and tracking for up to 5 competitor profiles
- Starter: unlimited scheduling, unlimited analytics history, LinkedIn support, and PDF and PowerPoint reports
- Advanced: custom report templates, a Looker Studio connector and API access
Pricing snapshot: Metricool prices by brand (a brand groups one business's accounts). Starter begins at about €16/mo (roughly $20) for up to 5 brands. Advanced starts at about €43/mo for 15 brands. Annual billing saves up to 24%. X is a paid add-on on Starter.
Pros: Strong analytics and competitor tracking for the price. Pricing by brand, not by account, is friendly to agencies.
Keep in mind: The free plan doesn't support LinkedIn or X, and 20 posts a month runs out quickly. Metricool lists prices in euros, so your US cost may vary a little.
5. Publer
Good fit: Batch-scheduling a month of posts in one sitting
Publer is built for people who like to set aside a block of time, prepare a batch of content, and be done. Its bulk scheduling and drag-and-drop calendar make that fast.
What you get:
- Free: 1 user, up to 3 social accounts (not including X), up to 10 scheduled posts per account at a time and 25 drafts
- Professional: X support, unlimited scheduling and drafts, bulk scheduling, a media library and RSS automations
- Business: unlimited AI Assist, advanced analytics, best times to post, competitor analysis, post recycling and approval workflows
Pricing snapshot: Publer charges per social account and per team member. Professional starts at $5/mo for one account. Business starts at $10/mo for one account. Yearly billing is 20% off, and every 10th account or member is free. Professional has a 7-day trial and Business a 14-day trial.
Pros: Very low entry price, and bulk scheduling is included on the first paid tier. Good value for a solo owner.
Keep in mind: Per-account pricing adds up as you connect more profiles, so total your accounts before comparing. Some formats may publish automatically while others send you a reminder to post manually, so check the formats you use.

6. SocialPilot
Good fit: Small agencies managing posts for clients
SocialPilot is built around client work. Its higher plans let clients review and approve posts without needing a full login, and let you send white-label reports under your own brand.
What you get:
- A publishing calendar and content library
- Client management, client approval workflows and bulk scheduling on Premium and higher
- White-label reports on Premium and higher
Pricing snapshot:
- Essentials: $30/mo, or $25.50/mo yearly, for 7 accounts and 1 user
- Standard: $50/mo, or $42.50/mo yearly, for 15 accounts and 3 users
- Premium: $100/mo, or $85/mo yearly, for 25 accounts, 6 users and unlimited client seats
- Ultimate: $200/mo, or $170/mo yearly, for 50 accounts and unlimited users
- A free trial is available on eligible plans. There's no free plan.
Pros: Strong client-facing features once you reach Premium. Flat plan pricing is easier to budget than per-channel billing.
Keep in mind: The client features most agencies want (approvals, bulk scheduling, white-label reports) start at the $85–100 Premium tier, not the entry plans. For a solo owner, Essentials costs more than Buffer or Publer for similar basic scheduling.
7. Zoho Social
Good fit: Businesses already using Zoho's other apps
Zoho Social combines scheduling with reporting, monitoring and team tools. If you already run your business on Zoho CRM or Zoho Desk, the built-in connections are a real plus.
What you get:
- Standard: scheduling and a publishing calendar for 1 brand and up to 14 channels
- Professional: bulk scheduling, RSS feeds, social messages and monitoring
- Premium: a shared inbox, content approvals, custom reports and Zoho CRM and Desk integrations
- Agency plans with client logins and branded reports
Pricing snapshot: Recent third-party checks put Standard at $15/mo, or $10/mo billed yearly. Professional is $40/mo ($30 yearly) and Premium is $65/mo ($40 yearly). Agency plans start at $230/mo billed yearly. New sign-ups get a 15-day trial with no card required.
Pros: Big savings with yearly billing, and tight integration with the rest of Zoho.
Keep in mind: The free plan lets you publish right away but doesn't support scheduling, which is the main reason most people want a scheduler. Approvals and custom reports require Premium. Most plans include just one user.
What should you look for?
Five questions do most of the work:
- Does it support your accounts? Check the exact networks and account types you use. Personal profiles, business pages and creator accounts don't always get the same treatment.
- Can it actually publish your formats? Photos, videos, carousels, Reels and Stories can have different rules. Some tools post automatically. Others send a phone reminder so you can post it yourself.
- Can you review posts first? Drafts and approvals catch the typo before 2,000 followers do. This matters even more with AI-written posts.
- How does the price grow? Some tools charge per account, some per brand, some per user. Count your accounts and teammates, then do the math.
- Can you tell what worked? Look for reports that help you decide what to post next, not just pretty charts.
Questions people ask
Will scheduled posts get less reach than posts I publish by hand?
There's no solid public evidence that the major networks penalize posts from approved scheduling tools. What matters far more is whether the content is good and whether you reply to comments.
What's the difference between a "channel," an "account" and a "brand"?
A channel or account is usually one connected profile, like your Facebook Page or Instagram profile. A brand (or "social set") is a group of profiles for one business. This difference is the biggest reason prices look so different between tools.
Is a free plan enough?
For a side hustle posting a few times a week on two or three accounts, often yes. Buffer, Publer and Metricool all have workable free plans. Zoho Social's free plan doesn't schedule, so it doesn't count here.
Can AI just write all my posts?
It can draft them. You should still edit them. AI is good at getting past the blank page and terrible at knowing that your store is closed on Monday.
Do I still need to log in to the social apps?
Yes, for replies and comments. A scheduler handles posting. Most of the community side of social media still happens in the moment.
Which should you choose?
- Free and simple: Start with Buffer (3 channels free) or Publer.
- Cheapest paid scheduling for one or two accounts: Publer (from $5/mo) or Buffer ($5–6 per channel).
- Posting plus real analytics: Metricool.
- Instagram- and TikTok-first visual brands: Later.
- Client approvals and white-label reports: SocialPilot (Premium and up).
- Already on Zoho: Zoho Social Standard or higher.
- AI-assisted content for several brands, with unlimited users: Consider Mage Engage, keeping in mind it's our product, and confirm it supports your networks.
Before you commit, use the free plan or trial to prepare one real week of content. If the tool makes that week easier, it will make the next fifty easier too. If it makes the week harder, no feature list will fix that.
